I enjoyed reading the article “In The Shadow of Death,” however, I think you left out an important segment of the Ministry to the Armed Forces—Chaplains Assistants. If assigned to a Chaplain, Chaplain Assistants have the job of protecting the Chaplain along with many other duties. As the military is forever suffering a shortage of Chaplains, Chaplain Assistants have become quite important—even more so now as the Army National Guard has made Chaplain Assistant positions a stand alone MOS (Military Occupational Specialty). While I understand Assistants are not pastors or chaplains, many do hold this position while attending Seminary and I think The Lutheran Witness and Concordia Historical Institute should feel a little sheepish for leaving them out.
