Taking a bet

Iwas interested in the article written by the Rev. Dr. Jerald C. Joersz especially due to a recent experience as a young couple left a casino. My wife and I had some friends who wanted to see the inside of a casino, so we stayed inside the car outside and waited for them. As we waited, we overheard a young couple on the way out who said they had just lost their weekly paychecks and now had nothing left for rent or food. Here are a few more items I’d like to add to Dr. Joersz’s list of principles in the article:

  • Gambling and lottery tickets take away money for rent, food, and church giving.

  • When people are not giving to their church, it makes it harder for churches to meet their budgets.

  • Kids are growing up and watching how their parents are spending their money.

  • If you win when gambling or with lottery tickets, then you are taking someone else’s money, and if you lose, you are spending money that the Lord has entrusted to you.
