April 2013 Letters to the Editor

Your [February] Lutheran Witness issue is fantastic! Lots of good stuff . . . and lots of stuff I’d love to share with other members (particularly parents) of our congregation. Thanks!

I want to thank you for your well-written “10 Reasons It’s Awesome to Be Lutheran” in the February issue of The Lutheran Witness. My appreciation is for the content in general and especially that in Reason 10 on the “End Times” you did not say “die and go to heaven.” That language is all too common in popular belief, but it misplaces both our hope and the goal of our hope. It places hope on “going to heaven,” thinking of heaven as a physical place which is not the New Testament teaching. Rather, our hope looks to Christ coming in judgment and ushering His people into “the life of the world to come,” or, to use another biblical concept, the new or renewed creation. You did well to stay with the language of the Nicene Creed.

P.S. To editors: The entire issue is extraordinarily done.

The Lutheran Witness for February was a timely and timeless message for our youth. Youth are hungry for certainty, fulfillment and meaning where everything seems up for grabs. We pray for faithful pastors and teachers to persevere with great faith, hope and vision, knowing that they do not labor in vain.

I just finished reading my February copy of Lutheran Witness from front to back and loved every line of it. The articles were all very well written and spoke to so many issues that our young people (and even us old people) have to deal with daily. Keep up the great job. You are reaching and reaching out to the issues that we have in front of us today. You continue to be a great resource for me as a wife, mom, grandma, friend and Sunday school teacher.
