I devoutly hope that the Canadian church visited by Donna Holmquist (Letters, September) was not a Lutheran Church. How inappropriate for a musical accompanist to interrupt music that should properly set a godly atmosphere for worship with a secular love song of the World War II era. Instead of “Stormy Weather,” far better had this pianist turned to a hymn such as “Jesus Christ, Our Lord Most Holy” with its references to the reaction of nature to the atoning death of our blessed Lord. Especially in the context of worship, talent and cleverness are best used to honor God and direct the congregation to Him, not to titillate and entertain those in attendance.
